Explaining member roles
In this article, we'll explain the various roles you can assign to your members when you invite them to join your station on Radio Cult.
There are four types of roles we support:
- Owner,
- Station manager,
- Program manager, and
- DJ.
Owner
A (station) owner is the only member that has full admin access over your station. An owner can access any part of the platform and is the only role that has access to the Billing section of the platform. This means, only an owner can manage your station's subscription, edit your station's payment details or view your station's invoices.
A station can have only one owner and is the only role that cannot be reassigned. The owner role is automatically assigned to the member who originally signed up your station to Radio Cult.
An owner can connect live to your station's stream whenever and they will not be automatically booted from the stream when a new event is scheduled to begin.
Station manager
A station manager has full admin access over your station, except they cannot access the Billing section of the platform. They can, however, access the Settings section. This means only members with the owner or station manager role type can modify your station's stream quality or live stream fallback.
You can assign the station manager role to more than one member and an existing station manager can be assigned a different role should you wish.
Like an owner, a station manager can connect live to your station's stream whenever and they will not be automatically booted from the stream when a new event is scheduled to begin.
Program manager
A program manager has similar access to your station to that of a station manager, however they cannot access the Settings section. Importantly, they can create events for your station or upload media to the platform.
You can assign the program manager role to more than one member and an existing program manager can be assigned a different role should you wish.
Like an owner, a program manager can connect live to your station's stream whenever and they will not be automatically booted from the stream when a new event is scheduled to begin.
DJ
A DJ has the least amount of access to your station out of the available roles. So no access to the Billing or Settings sections of the platform, plus limited access to other areas not explicitly mentioned here.
You can assign the DJ role to more than one member and an existing DJ can be assigned a different role should you wish.
Unlike all the previous roles discussed above, a DJ cannot connect live to your station's stream whenever. They can only successfully connect if the following occurs:
- The DJ member has been linked to one of your station's artists (to learn how to do this, refer to this help article), and
- The linked artist has been assigned to an upcoming event.
If the above has been fulfilled, the DJ will be able to connect to your station's stream once the scheduled event starts. When the event is scheduled to finish, the DJ will be automatically disconnected from the stream. This means the DJ can only connect for the duration of any event they are assigned to.
