Inviting users to your station
Explaining our user roles
Users and their corresponding user roles are a great way for you to manage who has access to your station and what actions they can perform.
Owner
A (station) owner is the only user that has full admin access over your station.
An owner can access any part of the platform and is the only role that has access to the Billing section of the platform.
A station can have only one owner and is the only role that cannot be reassigned.
Station manager
A station manager can do everything an owner can do, apart from having no access to the Billing section. A station manager can:
- Invite and manage users,
- Fully manage your media library,
- Has complete control over your station’s schedule,
- Modify your station’s settings,
- View all reporting, and
- Broadcast live whenever.
Program manager
A program manager is the ideal role for managing your station’s daily activities. The role is similar to station manager, but it has no access to the Settings section of the platform. So a program manager can:
- Fully manage your media library,
- Has complete control over your station’s schedule, and
- Broadcast live whenever.
DJ
A DJ role is the perfect role for when you want to enforce limited access to the platform and your station’s livestream. So they can:
- Upload new media, but they can only view and modify media they have previously uploaded,
- Can view and make basic edits to only their scheduled events, and
- Only live broadcast for scheduled events they have been assigned to (read on to learn more about this).
Inviting new users
To add new users to your station, you first need to invite them.
On your computer, open Radio Cult. Then navigate to the Users page by clicking the Settings (cog) button in the top right hand corner, and then the Users button in the side navigation bar (Home > Settings > Users).
Once on the Users page, complete the following:
- Enter the user’s Email address,
- Select the user’s Role, and
- Click the Invite button.
You can invite multiple users at the same time, by clicking the Add more button and then repeating steps 1 and 2 for each additional user.
Once invited, the user will be in a pending state and receive an email containing an activation link.
After accepting the invite, the user will be able to login and access your station. What they are able to view and what actions they can take depend on the role selected in step 2 above.
Modifying user roles
To modify an existing user’s role, navigate to the Users page and complete the following:
- Identify the user (you can use the search bar to help with this),
- Click the Actions (…) button next to the user you wish to modify,
- Click the Manage access option,
- Click the new role, and
- Click the Save changes button.
Only a (station) owner or station manager can modify user roles.
If you want to change the email address of an existing user, you’ll need to remove them first. So:
- Click the Actions (…) button next to the user you wish to remove,
- Click Remove user option, and
- Click the Remove user button in the confirmation window.
Once the user has been removed, you can re-invite them to your station with the updated email address.
Linking user to artist
Linking a user to an artist is useful for users with the DJ role. DJs can only go live during events they are linked to. Unlike Owners, Station managers and Program managers who can go live anytime.
DJs automatically are automatically linked to an artist when they are invited. However, you can update the linked artist whenever you want.
Linking a DJ user to an artist allows you to add the linked artist to an event, ensuring that the DJ is only live for the duration of that event.
To link an artist to a user, complete the following:
- Click the Actions (…) button next to the user you wish to remove,
- Click the Link artist option,
- Select an artist to link (or alternatively type to create a new artist), and
- Click the Link artist button.
A user who already has been linked to an artist will have a Link icon displayed to the left of their Actions button. If the user hasn’t been linked, a Link to Artist button will displayed instead.
Scheduling users for live broadcasts
In the Schedule page (Home > Schedule), create a new event by clicking the desired time on the calendar.
Tip: To create a longer event, drag your mouse down the page while you’re selecting the time.
In the Create event window, click the Live option for the event’s Media type and then select the linked artist from the Artists dropdown.
Add any additional details to the event and then click the Create event button.
Assuming the artist you selected was linked to a DJ user, then that user will only be able to connect to your station’s streaming server moments before this event starts. They will only be able to live broadcast for the duration of the event. Once the event has concluded, the user will be automatically disconnected from the stream.
