The different types of events

Looking to schedule some events but a bit confused on how to get going? You're in the right place. In this article we're going to discuss the different types of events you can create in Radio Cult.

Events control (almost) everything in Radio Cult. If you can use a calendar then you can run an internet radio station.

The main difference between events is the type of media for that event. Changing the media type will determine what that event will play. Events are all created in the same way, it's the type and choice of media that make all the difference.

Let's get started.

Pre-record

A pre-record event takes a single audio file and plays it for the duration of the event.

As the name suggests, this event type is geared towards pre-recorded shows. It's best used when you, or your hosts, DJs and presenters, are recording your shows locally for play out at a later date.

It is possible to schedule a pre-record event with no media. Use this technique when you know you have an upcoming show but don't yet have the file ready.

Playlist

A playlist event takes one of your playlists and plays it for the duration of the event.

Use this event type when there are multiple files you wish to be played.

Playlists can play in order or shuffled. They can also be composed of normal audio files or tag entries (where we randomly select a file with the corresponding tag). This allows for some powerful programming techniques that can remove the burden off of yourself.

Live

A live event is a slot for you to connect live and broadcast in real time to your listeners.

Depending on your settings, you can normally go live whenever with Radio Cult. However, programming live slots is helpful to:

  • Organise your schedule,
  • Handle a fallback if the host is late or misses their show slot,
  • And to handle access if you have users with the DJ role connecting.
