Scheduling your station's events

The schedule is the heart of your station on Radio Cult. It's here where all of your station’s events can be added or updated.

The schedule page

To get to the Schedule page, open Radio Cult on your computer. Then click the Schedule button in the top navigation bar (Home > Schedule).

By default, the calendar will display the current week. You can view previous weeks by clicking the Back button. You can view weeks in the future by clicking the Next button. You can return to viewing the current week by clicking the Today button. All three of these buttons are displayed in the top right hand corner of the calendar.

Adding new events

There are two ways to add a new event to your station’s schedule:

  1. By clicking the desired time on the calendar. To create a longer event, you can drag your mouse down the page while you’re selecting the time. This is the fastest and simplest way to add events.
  2. By clicking the Create button in the top right hand corner of the calendar. This will create an hour long event starting on the upcoming hour.

No matter which option you choose, all event options can be updated from the Create event window.

Event options

After performing either of the two actions described above, the Create event window will appear. It’s here, where you can add further details to the new event.

The Media type selected for any event determines the full range of available options to configure. However, there is a subset of event options which remains the same regardless of the chosen media type. So let’s cover those first:

  • Title (required): The title of the event.
  • Date: These values will already be set, but you can further refine the event’s Date, Start time and End time. The start and end time pickers display options in 15 min intervals. However you can type (to the minute) in your own start/end time if you require greater granularity.
  • Repeats: This defaults to never i.e. the event does not repeat. If you do want the event to repeat, select any of the other available options depending on your desired frequency.
  • Record event: If this option is enabled, the event will be recorded. Once the event has concluded, the audio recording will be available for later use.
  • Description: The description of the event. This option is not required i.e. it can be left empty.
  • Artists: If the Media type is live, then selecting the event’s artists can be very important. DJ users can only go live if their linked artist is attached to the current event. If the Media type of the event isn’t live, then adding artists is helpful for organising your schedule and displaying the correct metadata on our players and schedule embeds.
  • Colour: The colour of the event. This option is just for display purposes, but it can be useful for organisational purposes when done correctly.

Live event

A live event is a slot for you to connect live and broadcast in real time to your listeners.

The event option specific to a live event is:

  • Fallback: This option allows you to choose a playlist to be broadcast if the selected artist doesn’t connect whilst the live event is active. This ensures your station is still broadcasting something, even when things go wrong. The playlist selected here overrides your station’s global fallback.

Relay event

A relay event takes a third-party audio stream and broadcasts it from your Radio Cult streaming server for the duration of the event.

The event options specific to a relay event are:

  • Relay: The actual relay to be broadcasted for the event.
  • Fallback: Similar to a live event, this option allows you to choose a playlist to be broadcast if the relay fails for whatever reason. Again, the playlist selected here overrides your station’s global fallback.

Pre-record event

A pre-record event takes a single audio file and plays it for the duration of the event.

The event options specific to a pre-record event are:

  • Pre-record: The actual single audio file to be broadcasted for the event. This option can be left empty when the event is first created and subsequently updated closer to when the event is scheduled to happen.
  • Intro: This option allows you to choose a single media file or tag to play at the beginning of the event. If you select a tag, a single piece of media with that tag will be ‘randomly’ selected.
  • When media ends: This option allows you to choose what happens when the attached pre-record is shorter than the scheduled event duration.
  • Overrun: This allows you to avoid cutting the pre-record short, such that the media file will continue to play after the event was scheduled to end.
    • Max overrun duration: This option allows you to control how long the event can overrun (in minutes) before it is forced to end and the next event begins.

Playlist event

A playlist event takes one of your playlists and plays it for the duration of the event.

The event options specific to a playlist event are:

  • Playlist: The actual playlist to be broadcasted for the event.
  • Intro: This option allows you to choose a single media file or tag to play at the beginning of the event. If you select a tag, a single piece of media with that tag will be ‘randomly’ selected.
  • When media ends: This option allows you to choose what happens when the attached playlist is shorter than the scheduled event duration.
  • Overrun: This allows you to avoid cutting the playlist short, such that the media will continue to play after the event was scheduled to end.
    • Max overrun duration: This option allows you to control how long the event can overrun (in minutes) before it is forced to end and the next event begins.

Updating events

Updating an existing event is very simple - just click on the event you wish to update within the calendar. The edit event window will appear.

You can update any of the options we mentioned in the previous section. Just make the desired change and the updated option will be saved immediately for standalone events. However, for repeating events an additional pop-up will appear:

Choose which events in the repeating series you wish to update and then click the Update button.

Deleting events

Deleting an existing event is very similar to updating an event. Again just click on the event you wish to delete. The edit event window will appear.

Then click the Delete (trash) button in the top right hand corner of the window. If the event never repeats, you just need to click the Delete event button in the confirmation pop-up. If the event does repeat, this confirmation pop-up will be displayed:

Choose which events in this repeating series you wish to delete and then click the Delete button.
