How to live broadcast through Mixxx
In this article, we'll explain how to live broadcast through Mixxx, with a particular focus on connecting a Mixxx client to your Radio Cult streaming server. Let's dive into it!
What is Mixxx?
Mixxx is a free and open source DJ software tool. It integrates all the tools DJs need to perform live mixes with digital audio files. One of those tools is the ability to live stream audio through a remote server.
Mixxx is available on Windows, macOS and Linux. It can be downloaded from:
- Windows,
- macOS: Intel | ARM (Apple Silicon), and
- Linux.

Adding your radio station
To add your radio station to Mixxx, first please complete the following steps:
- Login to Radio Cult and remain on the Dashboard page,
- Then open Mixxx,
- Open the Settings window
- On macOS: in the top macOS navigation bar, click Mixxx -> Settings.
- On Windows: in the bottom Windows menu, right click the Mixxx icon -> Preferences.
- In the Settings window, select the Live Broadcasting option from the left hand side menu.
- Then click the Create new connection button.
Next please complete the following steps:
- Select the Icecast 2 option from the Type dropdown,
- For each of the below inputs, please enter the displayed value in the Connection details panel on the Radio Cult Dashboard (you can easily copy the value by clicking the Copy button, which is positioned to the right of each displayed value) into its corresponding input in Mixxx:
- Mountpoint (the corresponding Mixxx input is Mount),
- Address (the corresponding Mixxx input is Host),
- Port,
- Username (the corresponding Mixxx input is Login), and
- Password.
- Ensure the connection you created in the previous step is enabled.
- Then click the Ok button.
You're radio station should now be successfully added to Mixxx!
Broadcasting live
To start live broadcasting through Mixxx, click the On Air button positioned in the top right hand corner of the main window. When Mixxx has connected to your server, the aforementioned button will be highlighted in green.
Once your broadcast has finished click the On Air button again. When Mixxx has disconnected from your server, the button will no longer be highlighted in green.
