How to live broadcast through Traktor

In this article, we'll explain how to live broadcast through Traktor, with a particular focus on connecting a Traktor client to your Radio Cult streaming server. Let's dive into it!

What is Traktor?

Traktor is a paid piece of software for DJing. It's developed by Native Instruments. Often held up as the gold standard in the DJ world, alongside other popular DJ software such as Serato.

Adding your radio station

To add your radio station to Traktor, first complete the following steps:

  1. Login to Radio Cult and remain on the Dashboard page,
  2. Then open Traktor,
  3. Open the Traktor Settings window
  4. In the Settings window, select the Broadcasting option from the left hand side menu.

Next please complete the following steps:

  1. Leave the Proxy Settings as is,
  2. Update the Server Settings with the values from displayed value in the Connection details panel on your Radio Cult Dashboard (you can easily copy the value by clicking the Copy button, which is positioned to the right of each displayed value when hovered) into its corresponding input in Traktor:
    1. Address,
    2. Port,
    3. Mount (the corresponding Traktor input is Mount path),
    4. Password - Traktor doesn't have a separate slot for username so enter both your username and password separated by a vertical bar character — this character is: |. An example input might be: user@radiocult.fm|abcd1234
  3. Choose your stream format. Select any option with a sample rate set to 44100 Hz and a bitrate the same as your Radio Cult stream (e.g. 192 kbps). Note: Traktor only supports streams up to 192kbps quality
  4. (Optional) Update the Metadata Settings with what whatever values you want for stream URL, name, description and genre.
  5. Then click the Close button.

You're radio station details should now be successfully added to Traktor!

Broadcasting live

To start live broadcasting through Traktor, make sure the interface is set to the Mixer or Extended view. Next, make sure you can see the Audio Recorder section by clicking on the recording icon beneath FX.

All that's left to do is select the broadcast / antennae icon in the Audio Recorder section. The icon will flash blue while it's connecting. It will stay blue once a connection has been made.

That's it! You're now streaming live!

Once your broadcast has finished click the broadcast / antennae icon again. When Traktor has disconnected from your server, the button will go back to grey and will no longer be highlighted blue.
